Full Description

St Radegund's Church was rebuilt in 1797, with the exception of the massive Early English tower. In 1964 the church was in normal use. {1}{2} St Radegunda's Church has a very broad west tower dating from the 13th to 14th century. The west doorway is 13th century in date, with two orders of shafts, dogtooth in the arch, and capitals with simple upright leaves. But the broad, low, triple-chamfered arch towards the nave with triple-shafted responds, the middle one with a fillet, is rather early 14th than 13th century. Under the tower are fragments of decorated responds or piers; the pattern is quatrefoil with deep hollows. The rest of the church was rebuilt in 1797 and Victorialised in 1870 by James Fowler. The nave and chancel are in one. The reredos is by a B. Skipwith, with a copper-gilt relief of the crucifixion by Conrad Dressler. {3} A church built in c.1185, then altered in the 14th century and 1773 and restored by in c.1870.
