Full Description

'A SAXON 'FLAT STONE' (IE A STONE LYING OVER THE GROUND WHERE A BODY WAS BURIED) WITH INTERLACING WORK AND NARROW TWISTED BEADING, FOUND AT BLYBOROUGH.' THE STONE WAS RESTING ON THE FLOOR IN THE NORTHEAST CORNER OF ST.ALKMUND'S CHURCH IN 1964. FEATHERSTONE DESCRIBED IT AS CARRYING HEAVY INTER-LACED DECORATION AND CORDED MOULDING, AND CONSIDERED IT TO BE C8/C9. {1}{2}~ A SECTION FROM A LATE C10 OR C11 GRAVE COVER NOW IN THE NORTH CHAPEL OF ST. ALKMUND'S CHURCH. {3}~ FOUND DURING RESTORATION WORK IN 1877. {4}~
