PERAMBULATION OF A CROPMARK SITE (PRN 50544) IN 1964 RESULTED IN FINDS OF ROMAN POTTERY, INCLUDING SAMIAN; GLASS, BRICK AND ROOFING TILE. LOCAL FARM LABOURERS HOLD ROMAN COINS (19 IN ALL) WHICH THEY HAVE FOUND IN FIELDS ADJACENT. {1}{2} IN 1959 A LATE C2 ROMAN BRONZE BROOCH WAS FOUND AT SK83278353 IN THE VICINITY OF THE CROPMARK SITE. THE BROOCH IS A HEAD-STUD BROOCH OF COLLONGWOOD'S GROUP Q, OF THE VARIETY WITH HINGED PIN AND CAST HEAD LOOP, AND ENAMELLED DECORATION IN BLUE AND YELLOW. PRESENTED TO CITY AND COUNTY MUSEUM. {3}{4}{5}
