Full Description
Some half dozen or more human skeletons, roughly grouped together, were unearthed about 18 inches below the road surface, in the centre of Stainton by Langworth village in 1936. A local resident stated in 1964 that the burials were discovered by water board employees during the digging of a trench for a water main; they were reburied when the trench was filled in. {1}
Fragments of disarticulated human bone were noted in the front garden of Fair Lea, during a site visit conducted in March 2008. The fragments would suggest that the former burial ground extends at least to this part of the village. The date of the burials remains unclear. {2}
