Full Description

A Romano-British pottery scatter, roof tile and box tile fragments was found in the 1960s along about a 100 yard stretch of the stream. The pottery was mainly greyware, 99% of the fourth century; also gritty wares; rustic ware; Parisian ware; orange fabrics of samian imitation; and colour-coated ware, as well as coins of the third and fourth century. The finds are in Lincoln museum. {1}{3}{4}{5} Cropmarks show a string of large regular ditched enclosures aligned along the stream - possibly field boundaries, with traces of smaller rectangular enclosures and pits closer to the stream - possibly buildings. These are partly masked, possibly by alluvium. The nature of the cropmarks makes it difficult to interpret the site - possibly a small settlement, or linear farmstead. The site is visible on Paul Everson aerial photographs of 1976. {2}
