There is a Roman site is on the Blyborough-Willoughton boundary. The buildings are chiefly on the Blyborough side. Foundations have been removed from here by the cartload but there is a lot left and the soil in part of the field is so dark it is known to the farm-workers as 'the black end'. Much roof tile and pottery has been found. {5} A Roman occupation site and large surface scatter of finds on the Blyborough/ Willoughton boundary. The soil is so dark that the area is known as 'Black End'. Building foundations were seen in the 1930s. Brick, stone, roofing tiles, coarse pottery, a bronze brooch, a 4th or 5th century bronze libra [weight] with a Greek inscription, and other finds have come from the site. In 1964 the southern field in the indicated area was under pasture and no significant finds were made. The northern field was under plough and a liberal surface scatter of coarse grey pottery sherds was found over quite a large area around the site. The major portion of the site seems to be north of the parish boundary.{1}{2}{3}{4} Maybe the site of the mosaic pavement found in 1835? But local tradition places it at a field to the north. {2}{5}
