Full Description

A SINGLE POND WHICH LIES IN THE BOTTOM OF A SMALL WEST-DRAINING VALLEY, SOUTH OF THE MOATED SITE AND DMV AT BUSLINGTHORPE. THE TRIANGULAR EMBANKED POND IS CREATED BY AN L-SHAPED DAM WITH A WEST ARM AT RIGHT ANGLES TO THE STREAM, AT LEAST 2M HIGH AND WITH A SOUTH ARM DIMINISHING IN HEIGHT TO 1M AT ITS EAST END. THE DITCH OF AN AVOIDANCE CHANNEL RUNS ALONG ITS NORTH SIDE AND OVER- SPILL BACKING UP FROM THE POND WAS CHANNELLED AWAY ALONG THE SOUTH SIDE. A WATER-MILL PROBABLY STOOD OVER THE GAP IN THE DAM, NOW UTILIZED BY THE STREAM.
