Full Description
The remains of a levelled barrow cemetery of at least 11 barrows was noticed as soilmarks during ploughing, in 1967-68, and by Paul Everson, in 1978. {1}{2}{3}{4}
D. Everatt conducted limited excavations in 1967 on three of the barrows at TF 179 962, TF 180 969 and TF 1820 9655. Two had been robbed of their burial deposits and one of these yielded sherds of beaker pottery, a flint scraper and a bronze basket-shaped ear ring. The third barrow had cremated remains. {1}{2}{3}{10}
There was extensive fieldwalking in 1983-87 coupled with an aerial photographic survey in 1988 of the vicinity. {5}
In close proximity to the barrow cemetery is a possible unknown prehistoric enclosure (TF 1786 9624). {6}
A collection of worked flints (cores, flakes and scrapers) were found in the field containing the barrows. These were found by J. May during field walking in October 1973. {7}
