Full Description

AN ANGLO-SAXON BARROW, 340' IN CIRCUMFERENCE AND ABOUT 8' HIGH, EXCAVATED IN 1849. SKELETON, SWORD AND SHIELD OF PRINCELY BURIAL FOUND. THE SILVER MOUNTS OF THE SHIELD, DATING FROM THE EARLY C7, ARE IN THE BRITISH MUSEUM. THIS TUMULUS IS TRACEABLE IN THE PLOUGH AT SK97068895. IT IS REDUCED IN HEIGHT TO 0.3M AND HAS A SCATTER OF LIMESTONE ON THE TOP. ITS PRECISE DIAMETER CAN NOW NO LONGER BE DETERMINED. {1}{2}{3}, HEIGHT 2.5M, DIAMETRE 32.4M, HTM 49M
