THE CHURCH AT HEAPHAM STANDS QUITE ALONE, SET ABOVE AN IMPORTANT SPRING IN A NATURAL BASIN, WITH ITS ASSOCIATED SETTLEMENTS ARRANGED ON THE SURROUNDING HIGHER LAND. IT MAY BE THAT THE CHURCH IS ON A MUCH OLDER PRE-CHRISTIAN RITUAL SITE, CONNECTED WITH WATER CULTS. {1}~
