A deer park at Kettleby is documented only in the later C17 during the leasing and sale of the manor of Kettleby by Francis Tyrwhitt - as in the conveyance of 'the manor, capital messuage and park of Kettleby' in 1655 – but its existence in the earlier C17 and probably in the C16 is perhaps implicit in the royal visits. A park is marked on Speed's county map of 1610. A park area extending east and north-east from the fishponds and the moat's surrounding enclosures, and evidently bounded initially by the Skegger Beck on the south-west and north-west and the township boundary on the south-east is marked by the C18 field names 'lawnes': it probably expanded to take in the whole north-east arm of the township where the field names are 'upper park' and 'lower park' with the farm 'Kettleby Parks' in them. In the mid C19 it was noted that 'part of the park fence was ‘til lately left standing on the Wrawby side of the ruins, composed of massive oak held together by wooden fastenings'. Further park names in the east of the township, 'Park Hill Close' TA019072 and 'Great' and 'Little Park Wood' TA023076, lie on the edge of a block of woodland names that may located the 100 acres of wood that formed part of the Tyrwhitt's manor in 1581.
