Full Description

The surviving earthworks of the moated site at Osgodby, located at TF 068928, are partially obscurred by Manor Farm and are cut through by the modern stream channel. The earthworks may mark the site of the Tournay manor which was probably established in the early 14th century. The surviving remains consist of a broad straight moat or fishpond with a bay that extends east into the platform of the moat. Along the western edge of the moat is a bank acting as a dam with a gap at its south end. This moated site cuts through ridge and furrow indicating that it is a later medieval in date. {1} An earthwork moat, located at TF 0679 9285, an earthwork mound, located at TF0681 9285 and an earthwork leat, located at TF 0676 9287, TF 0671 9290 and TF 0678 9277 have been identified during the National Mapping Programme. They were all identified as probable late medieval in date. {3}
