Full Description

Moated site at the southern end of the village of Linwood. The earthworks are probably the remains of the larger of two manors, recorded in the Domesday Book, and held by Alfred of Lincoln. There was some population growth in the early post-medieval period, but there was a sharp decline in the 17th century, perhaps due to Enclosure. In 1607, the manor house was 'decayed'. There was population increase in the 1830's. The earthworks used to be scheduled, but have been ploughed out, and so are no longer scheduled. {1}{2}{3}{4}{5}{6}
