Full Description

THE REMAINS OF THE NORTH ARM OF A HOMESTEAD MOAT; THE EAST ARM IS REPRESENTED BY A LARGE MODERN POND, AND THERE IS NO SURFACE INDICATION OF THE OTHER ARMS. THE PRESENT FARMHOUSE IS C19. THE OWNERS HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE OF THE EXISTENCE OF AN EARLIER HOUSE. {1}~ MOAT HOUSE FARM, LYING WITHIN KEXBY'S OLD ENCLOSURES, HAS RECENTLY BEEN COMPLETELY DESTROYED AND THE SITE PLOUGHED UP: IT IS NOT NOW POSSIBLE TO BE SURE WHETHER ITS PONDS WERE INDEED PART OF A FORMER RESIDENTIAL MOAT. {3}~ THE SOILMARKS OF THE ?NORTH ARM OF THE FORMER MOAT AND A POSSIBLE SUPPLY CHANNEL (OR POSSIBLY THE WEST AND SOUTH ARMS OF THE MOAT) HAVE BEEN PLOTTED BY THE ROYAL COMMISSION AS PART OF THE APU MAPPING PROJECT. {4}~
