Full Description
SUPPOSED MOAT - PROBABLY A DRAINAGE DITCH. IN 1964 SEAMAN REPORTED THAT THE FEATURE WAS ALMOST CERTAINLY A DRAINAGE DITCH. THERE WAS NO TRACE OF A POSSIBLE FOURTH ARM AND THE SITE WAS OVERLOOKED IMMEDIATELY TO THE NORTH. {1}{2}
THE F-SHAPED POND SITED ON LOW GROUND BELOW THE TERRACE ON WHICH THE HOUSE STANDS, MAY BE AN ORNAMENTAL FEATURE PERHAPS OF C18 DATE, ALIGNED ON THE HOUSE'S SOUTH FACADE. IT OVERLIES RIDGE-AND-FURROW, AND MAY HAVE BEEN FED BY A CHANNEL FROM THE NORTHWEST WITH OUTLETS IN THE SOUTH INTO DEEP DRAINAGE CHANNELS. {3}
