Full Description
The alien priory belonging to the Premonstratensian Abbey of Blanchelande (Normandy) was founded in about 1192. A prior is documented in the late 13th or 14th century. In 1376 only a prior and a canon were resident. The priory was sold to the Cistercians of Hulton Abbey, Staffordshire in 1396. {1}
The grid reference may not be accurate. Masonry was found at SK 947 823 and is thought to perhaps belong to a House of Canons Regular. {2}
This Alien Priory was a cell of L’Essay (Coutances) before 1126, but after a dispute was transferred to the Premonstratensian Abbey of Blanchelande in 1192. It remained a cell of Blanchelande until it was acquired by Hulton Abbey, Staffordshire, a Cistercian house, in 1396. {5}
