[Note: the full location and extent of this site is not certain.] An Anglo-Saxon inhumation cemetery of 5th to 6th century was found in Caistor parish ‘about halfway between that town and the adjoining village of Nettleton’ in the 19th century. Several finds of skeletons and grave goods including spearheads, a hanging-bowl and beads were reported. At this time they were believed to represent the remains of a battle in about 827 between Egbert and the Mercians. {1}{2}{3}{4} A grave found nearby in 1972, in Caistor parish, may have formed part of this cemetery (see PRN 50587). {5} Further skeletons have been reported from this area including one found during construction of the bypass in 1937, three skeletons found during drain digging in 1964 at TA 114 009 and several found near TF 113 011 between 1964-69. No grave goods are mentioned with any of these burials. {6}
