Full Description
'ANCIENT SPURS AND HELMET' REPUTED TO HAVE BEEN FOUND BY WORKMAN IN SCOTTER. {1}
They were found 'a few years before 1861'. It is possible that this finds was associated with the dug-out boat (50080) as this find is also associated, if ambigously, in the original text. The helmet, once in the church, is said to have been 'found close by' which could imply a related find. {2}
The helmet has been dated to about 1580. {3}
