Full Description

A polished felsite axe was found to the south of Scotter in 1942. It is now in Scunthorpe Museum. {1}{2}{3} The axe is of group VI type, and has been thin sectioned. {4} The axe is 98mm long with a sharpened butt, though somewhat damaged. The sides are well flattened and there is a moderately curved cutting edge. The axe has been ground but is not certainly Neolithic and could be Bronze Age in date. It was found some 300m north of Field House, off Scotton Road. {5}
