Full Description

A GOOD CLEAR SITE ON THE N AND E SIDES OF A STREAM WITH A TYPICAL SUNKEN ROADWAY AND RECTANGULAR ENCLOSURES FOR HOUSES. THE SITE IS PRESERVED IN THE GROUNDS OF WALMSGATE HALL. {1} THE VILLAGE IS MENTIONED IN 1377 WHEN 30 PEOPLE PAID POLL TAX. A PRIEST WAS LAST INSTITUTED ABOUT 1435 BUT 8 FAMILIES REMAINED IN 1563. THE SMALL CHURCH WAS STILL STANDING IN THE EARLY 17TH CENTURY., AREA 16H, LENGTH 800M, WIDTH 200M, HTM 50M
