Full Description
Iron Age and Romano-British settlement and farmstead, south of Glebe Farm, Welton le Wold. The site survives as an extensive area of cropmarks and soilmarks, visible in aerial photographs. The settlement cropmarks have been identified and recorded by the National Mapping Programme. The farmer found the upper stone of a quern and some Roman pottery in 1953. A very large scatter of Romano-British pottery, of 3rd and 4th century date, was reported in 1961 (the Collection and the OS card quote different grid reference locations). The scatter included one sherd of Samian ware. {1}{2}{3}{4}{5}{6}
