Full Description

PRN 43533 A watching brief was carried out during groundworks for an extension on the Manor House, Manor Farm, Little Carlton. The present building is a 19th century farmstead. The foundations at the south east corner of the manor house were observed. A large feature was found which was probably part of the medieval or earlier moat. Small pieces of brick rubble were found in the more recent contexts which may have derived from levelling of the ground when the present house was built. Two 17th century pottery sherds were found in this upper fill. {1}{2} Manor Farm (Manor House), Little Carlton. Partially extant 19th century farmstead. Regular courtyard of E plan. The farmhouse is detached from the main working complex. There has been a partial loss (less than 50%) of traditional buildings. Isolated location. {3}
