Summary

BOWL BARROW 800 M NE OF THE MANOR HOUSE

Type and Period (2)

Protected Status/Designation

Full Description

A MOUND ADJOINING A FISH POND; EITHER A WINDMILL {2} OR A BARROW {1}{4} THIS MOUND IS SCHEDULED AS A BRONZE AGE BOWL BARROW (08/07/97). THE SUBSTANTIAL EARTHWORK MOUND IS ROUGHLY CIRCULAR, MEASURING BETWEEN 20M AND 28M. THE GENTLY ROUNDED PROFILE OF THE MOUND IS INTERRUPTED AT THE SUMMIT BY A LARGE CIRCULAR DEPRESSION. THERE IS NO EVIDENCE TO SUGGEST THAT THE MOUND HAS BEEN EXCAVATED AND THIS DEPRESSION IS MORE LIKELY TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH THE SITING OF A FORMER WINDMILL. {5}, HEIGHT 2.7M, DIAMETER 20M-28M, HTM 70M
