Full Description

WILLOUGHBY STATION WAS OPENED WITH THE EAST LINCOLNSHIRE GRIMSBY-BOSTON LINE IN 1848, REBUILT FOR SUTTON BRANCH AND REOPENED IN 1886. THE STATION WAS CLOSED 5TH OCTOBER 1970. ITS PRESENT CONDITION IS NOT KNOWN. BOOKING HALL, WAITING ROOM ON EAST PLATFORM - AN ISLAND. THE BUILDINGS WERE WOODEN, SLATE ROOF APPORX 120 FEET LONG. BRICK WAITING ROOM ON WEST PLATFORM. THE SIGNAL BOX TO THE NORTH OF THE STATION CONTROLLED THE BRANCH JUNCTION. THERE WAS A LARGER BOX, WITH BRICK BASE ON THE WEST PLATFORM. ALSO LATTICE FOOTBRIDGE OVER TRACKS BY THE WESTERN SIGNAL BOX. BRICK GOODS SHED WITH SLATE ROOF IN YARD TO THE SOUTH OF THE STATION. IT WAS CLOSED TO GOODS ON 2ND MAY 1966. {1}
