Full Description

THE BARN AT KETSBY HOUSE FARM WAS BUILT C.1500. IN 1966 IT WAS IN IMMINENT DANGER OF DEMOLITION, AND WAS DESCRIBED AS 'CRUCK BARN IN A DILAPIDATED CONDITION. THE PRESENT WALLS ARE BRICK, POSSIBLY EARLY C19. THE ROOF WAS ORIGINALLY THATCHED AND THE LATEST ONE, JUST REMOVED, IS CORRUGATED IRON. IT IS SAID BY THE PRESENT OWNER THAT THE BUILDING WAS ORIGINALLY A MANOR HOUSE. THE ROOF TIMBERS ARE ROUGH-HEWN AND PART OF THE OUTSIDE FRAME IS STILL PRESENT, BUILT INTO THE BRICKWORK. NOT ALL THE SUPPORTS ARE ORIGINAL. AS MIGHT BE EXPECTED THE MORTICE AND TENON JOINTS ARE ALL FIXED WITH WOODEN PEGS. 26 FT 10 INS BY 54 FT 5 INS BY 9 FT 6 INS TO EAVES'. {1} A site visit on 8th August 2006 revealed no trace of the barn. {2}
