Full Description

THE RAILWAY STATION, COMPRISING STATION HOUSE AND PLATFORMS, IN LEGBOURNE WAS BUILT C.1848. THE RAILWAY SIGNAL BOX WAS BUILT C.1886. IT WAS OPENED WITH THE LINE ON 3RD SEPT 1848, CALLED LEGBOURNE UNTIL 1880, THEN LEGBOURNE ROAD. IT WAS CLOSED TO PASSENGERS ON 7 DEC 1953, AND TO GOODS ON 15 JUNE 1964. THE LINE WAS CLOSED 5 OCT 1970, AND THE RAILS WERE LIFTED. THE STATION HOUSE IS NOW A PRIVATE HOUSE, AND HAS BEEN RESTORED EXTERNALLY TO ORIGINAL GNR CONDITION AS PART OF THE RAILWAY MUSEUM. THE PLATFORM HAS BEEN REBUILT WITH THE REFURBISHED SIGNAL BOX, WHICH HAS A FRAME INSIDE IT AND FITTINGS, BUT NOT FROM THE ORIGINAL BOX. THE PLATFORM HAS PERIOD SIGNS AND EPHEMERA. {1}
