Full Description

'REDHILL' OF UNKNOWN DATE, BUT POSSIBLY MEDIEVAL. WALKING ACROSS THE SITE WITH THE OWNER IDENTIFIED MUCH BRIQUETAGE AND IRON SLAG (IDENTIFIED BY JANE COWGILL, CLAU). THERE WAS NO DATEABLE POTTERY. SEVERAL OTHER SALTERN DEBRIS SITES IN THE AREA, ALL COMPRISED OF MOUNDS OF WASHED SILTS. MOST MARKED SITE AROUND OLD OXBOW WHICH IS POSSIBLY ALTERED TO FACILITATE SALTMAKING AT TF 41319765. {1}{2} Medieval salterns did not use the poorly-fired clay-vessels that are the source of briquetage. If the identification of briquetage is accurate then the site will be Prehistoric or Roman. {3}
