Full Description

PRN 43137 A GEOPHYSICAL SURVEY ON LAND OFF WITHAM ROAD IDENTIFIED SOME LINEAR ANOMALIES. THESE WERE INTERPRETED AS POSSIBLY THE REMNANTS OF PLOUGHED OUT RIDGE AND FURROW. {1}{2} TWO MACHINE TRENCHES WERE EXCAVATED ACROSS PART OF THE AREA BUT THERE WERE NO DETECTABLE ARCHAEOLOGICAL FEATURES. {3} DURING A FURTHER GEOPHYSICAL SURVEY ON ADJACENT LAND A NUMBER OF WEAK TRENDS WERE IDENTIFIED. IT IS BELIEVED THAT THEY ARE LIKELY TO BE NATURAL, ALTHOUGH AN ARCHAEOLOGICAL INTERPRETATION MAYBE A POSSIBILITY. WHILE A SINGLE PIT ANOMALY HAS BEEN FOUND, A LACK OF CONTEXT WOULD SUGGEST THAT THE INTERPRETATION MUST REMAIN INCONCLUSIVE. {4}
