Full Description

PRN 43102 30 FRAGMENTS OF BRIQUETAGE WERE OBSERVED CLOSE TO THE WESTERN SIDE OF THE FIELD (FIELD 22) IN THE SOIL AT THE TOP OF THE BACKFILLED TRENCH, DURING THE WATCHING BRIEF ON THE BURGH LE MARSH - INGOLDMELLS RISING MAIN). THE SOURCE OF THIS MATERIAL WAS NOT SEEN BUT IT IS ASSUMED THAT THE TRENCH DISTURBED PART OF A SALTERN SITE BELOW THE MARINE FLOOD - SILT LAYER. A ROMANO-BRITISH DATE HAS BEEN ASCRIBED TO THIS SALTERN SITE AND EXAMINATION OF THE BRIQUETAGE HAS FOUND CLOSER AFFINITIES WITH CONTEMPORARY DATED SITES ON THE ROUTE. {1}{2}
