Full Description

PRN 43092 Some Roman material was recovered during an evaluation, but there was no contemporary features were identified. This suggests that this area to the east of the Roman Military enclosure probably served as a defensive 'codon sanitaire', natural defence being provided to the north, west and south by the rivers. A second implication of this evidence is that this interfluve was unoccupied prior to the creation of the military enclosure. {1}{2}{3} During an evaluation on land to the north of Conging Street, a 1st century Late La Tene/Nauheim Derivative bow brooch was recorded at NGR TF 2598 6978.{4}{5}
