Full Description

The medieval settlement of Stickford is mentioned in the Domesday Book as having land owned by Ivo de Taillebois. There were 28 sokemen and two villeins with three teams there. {1} A hollow way and other features including a ditch were located during a geophysical survey and watching brief at main road (TF 3560 6028). Medieval pottery and tile were also recovered. {2}{3}{4} Extensive traces of medieval ridge and furrow were identified around Stickford on aerial photographs by the National Mapping Programme. {5} Further traces of the ridge and furrow were identified to the south of Stickford in August 2012, during lidar assessment of the proposed route of a new water pipeline between Miningsby and Boston. The remains were identified as a series of parallel linear earthworks, aligned on a roughly east to west axis. {6}
