Full Description

A Bronze Age sword found in fragments when dredging the beck near Poultry Farm at Tattershall Thorpe. It appears to have been broken in antiquity. It has been interpreted as a possible votive offering. {1} The sword was seen again in April 2012 when the finder brought it to an open day at the museum. It is in complete and in seven pieces. It is a late Bronze Age, leaf-shaped sword very similar to No.420 in Davey’s catalogue. The finder reported that a further similar sword had been found on the southern side of the beck by his neighbour. This second sword has not been seen by the museum or the Lincolnshire Finds Liaison Officer. {2}{3}
