Monument record MLI42857 - Possible moat at Abbey House, Keddington
Summary
Possible moat at Abbey House, Keddington
Type and Period (3)
Protected Status/Designation
- None recorded
Full Description
An L-shaped pond is visible on Ordnance Survey maps that is reminiscent of part of a moat. {1}{2}
The L-shaped pond is also visible on earlier Ordnance Survey maps from the 1880s and from about 1905. {3}{4}
The site lies beside the site of the medieval monastery of Louth Park and the earthwork pond might possibly relate to the monastery and may possibly be part of the precinct boundary. It is perhaps unlikely to be a medieval moated site as it is so close to Louth Park but maybe post medieval. {5}
