Full Description

AT THIS LOCATION TRACES OF AN ANCIENT ENCAMPMENT, INCLUDING THREE MOUNDS 18FT IN DIAMETER, ARE RECORDED. IT IS ALLEGED THAT NEARBY CAMPAIGN FARM TAKES ITS NAME FROM A ROMAN ENCAMPMENT AND THAT LARGE SANDSTONE BLOCKS WERE FOUND HERE IN 1850. THERE IS ALSO A TRADITION THAT CROMWELL LODGED HIS TROOPS HERE PRIOR TO THE BATTLE OF WINCEBY. CANON TATUM REPORTS A 'CAMP' AT TF348765 AT GUT FAUX PLANTATION. ALTHOUGH THE TRADITION OF A CAMP STILL EXISTS THE EARTHWORKS COULD NOT BE TRACED WHEN VISITED IN 1964. {1}{2}{3}{4}{5}
