Full Description

KETSBY IS MENTIONED IN 1086. THE CHURCH OF ST MARGARET BECAME RUINOUS IN THE 18TH CENTURY. A LAST PRIEST HAD BEEN INSTITUTED IN 1597. A MARKET AND FAIR WAS KNOWN TO BE HELD THERE. AIR PHOTOS SHOW TRACES OF EARTHWORKS, AND UP TO 1966 A 14TH CENTURY BARN AT KETSBY HOUSE SURVIVED. THIS AISLED BARN WITH 2 BASE CRUCK TRUSSES STOOD ON THE SITE OF THE SMV. WHITE MENTIONS AN 'ANCIENT WATER MILL' PRESENT WHICH IS APPARENTLY MENTIONED AT DOMESDAY. FINDS INCLUDE MEDIEVAL POTS AND STAMFORD WARE. {1}{2}{3}{4}{5}{6}{7} The old font which stood in Ketsby Church now stands in the garden of Walesby Red House, Walesby (TF131 924). {8}
