Full Description

CENTRED ON TF288679 WERE THE REMAINS OF THE MEDIEVAL VILLAGE OF MAREHAM ON THE HILL, LYING TO THE NE AND S OF THE CHURCHYARD. THESE WERE SHALLOW- PLOUGHED IN 1976 AND MEDIEVAL POTTERY AND TILE WAS FOUND. {1}{2} The remains of the once larger village of Mareham on the Hill. The village is mentioned in the Domesday Book. {3}{4}{5}{6} The National Mapping programme plotted many cropmarks and earthworks which are connected with medieval settlement. They include a trackway, crofts, ridge and furrow and field boundaries. {7}
