Full Description

PRN 42321 THIS BARROW WAS MARKED AS A TUMULUS ON THE OS MAP OF 1824 AND WAS CONFIRMED BY C W PHILLIPS IN 1935. THE BARROW WAS SECTIONED BY G V TAYLOR PRIOR TO LEVELLING. FOUR POTSHERDS AND A FLINT FLAKE WERE FOUND. {1}{2}{3}{4} THE BARROW AND THE SURROUNDING AREA WERE FIELDWALKED IN 1996. FLINTS RECOVERED INCLUDE A VERY FINE LEAF-SHAPED ARROWHEAD, BROKEN AT THE BASE, A ROUGH SCRAPER, A BLADE, WASTE FLAKES AND A REALLY ROUGH PIECE OF FLINT WITH A CONCAVE EDGE WORKED TO FORM A SCRAPER. THESE ARE SUGGESTED TO BE MID-LATE NEOLITHIC IN DATE. IT IS THOUGHT THAT RABBIT ACTION HAD BROUGHT TO THE SURFACE OF THE MOUND SOME POTTERY FRAGMENTS WHICH CANNOT NOW BE LOCATED. {5}, HTM 123M
