THE SITE OF THE SETTLEMENT OF LOW TOYNTON. IT IS MENTIONED IN THE DOMESDAY BOOK OF 1086 AND EARTHWORKS WERE VISIBLE FROM THE AIR IN THE LATE 1940S BUT HAVE SINCE BEEN PLOUGHED OUT. SHERDS OF MEDIEVAL POTTERY FOUND CLOSE TO LOW TOYNTON HAMLET AND PROVIDING EVIDENCE OF MEDIEVAL SETTLEMENT AT TF 275 706. POTTERY TYPES INCLUDE LOCAL WARES, SHELLY WARE, A MIDLAND PURPLE WARE HANDLE AND A LATE MEDIEVAL PANCHEON RIM. {1}{2}{3}{4}{5}
