Full Description

Remains of two earthwork mounds on land to the east of Candlesby. The mounds were intially thought to be remains of prehistoric long barrows, but were later thought to more likely be spoil heaps from the digging of nearby post-medieval quarry pits and ponds. One of the mounds was levelled by modern ploughing, and no trace of earlier features or material was found. {1}{2}{3}{4} The interpretation of the mounds as long barrows has also been rejected by Dilwyn Jones on the basis of further aerial photographic evidence. {5}{6}
