Full Description

A chalk-lined well was discovered in September 1975, in this area to the north-east of Candlesby. The well was more than 30ft deep, and was constructed of rough chalk rubble masonry for its whole depth. The bottom was silted, and the top had been sealed with bricks. The date of the well is uncertain, although the use of bricks to block the top would suggest it went out of use in the post-medieval period. No depiction of a well is shown in this location on any Ordnance Survey maps of this area, suggesting it had been blocked before the late 19th century. {1}{2}
