Full Description

An Anglo-Saxon coped stone grave slab with interlaced work is used as a step to the west door of St Michael’s Church. {1}{2} Part of a coped or round-topped grave cover used as the threshold stone at the west door of the tower of the Church of St Michael, Mavis Enderby. The stone is in poor condition the surface having been degraded by abrasive wear and weathering and too little of the decorative scheme survives to be certain of its original form. It is a greyish yellow shelly oolitic limestone. It has been dated to the 11th century. {3}
