DEFENSIVE MEDIEVAL EARTHWORK POSSIBLY SERVING AS A REFUGE FOR VILLAGERS' CATTLE IN THE MID TWELFTH CENTURY. IN CANON TATHAM'S EXCAVATION c1906 RUBBLE FOUNDATIONS, ROOF TILES, POTTERY, METAL OBJECTS AND ANIMAL BONES WERE FOUND TO THE WEST END OF THE ENCLOSURE. ORIGINALLY INTERPRETED AS ROMAN THEY ARE PROBABLY MEDIEVAL. {1}{2}{3}{4}{5} THE AREA HAS BEEN PLOUGHED EAST OF THE FARM AND THE EARTHWORKS APPEAR AS SOILMARKS. IN 1977 MORE POTTERY AND COINS INCLUDING A SCEAT AND ONE CNUT WERE FOUND. {6}{7} NMP - earthwork enclosure and mound. {8}
