Full Description

Romano British settlement site discovered 200 yards north-east of Willoughby Junction during the cutting of the branch line in 1885. A large quantity of roofing and flue tiles, pottery including samian, a coin of Hadrian, square head pin, bronze object and parts of two patera were found. The soil was mixed with ash, black and red earth, chalk, charcoal, oyster shell, bone and pottery fragments. {1}{2}{3}{4}
