Full Description

Site of the former Church of St Thomas at Northolme. Thought to have possibly been a manorial chapel, belonging to Kyme Priory before the Reformation. Believed to still be standing at the time of the Protectorate, when the General Baptists were granted use of the site. No mention of the church is made after this, and it is possible that any remains of the building were demolished at some point in the late 17th century. Its former churchyard continued in use and is still extant, forming the southern part of the larger, modern cemetery now in this area. Stone from the former building is believed to have been re-used in some of the nearby buildings, with further fragments noted during mid 20th century grave digging within the cemetery. {1}{2}{3}
