Full Description
Earthworks of a shrunken medieval village are to the north of the church, including the remains of a street, seen in 1959. The area was called Mumby Chapel in the 16th century. {1}{2}{3}{4}{5}
A watching brief at Sea Road revealed medieval ditches dating from the 13th century to the end of the medieval period. Finds including pottery and animal bone were also recovered. It is suggested that the later ditches were cut for drainage or demarcation purposes. {6}{7}
At TF 5543 7248 on land off St Leonard's Drive a watching brief was carried out. Two sherds of green glazed pottery were recovered from the spoil heap. {8}{9}
An earthwork survey in 1998 identified north-west/south-east aligned ridge and furrow.{10}{11}
