Full Description

Formerly a Baptist Chapel, now a house, founded in 1690 and altered in about 1776 and in the 19th and 20th centuries. It was constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and has a hipped pantile roof. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1}{2} The building was surveyed as part of a survey of nonconformist chapels in East Lindsey District. Stell commented that 'A Baptist congregation is believed to have met here from the late 17th century as part of the 'South Marsh' church. In 1773, fifteen members of the older society seceded to join the New Connexion and the present chapel was built for them in 1776. The church, never large, was so reduced by 1816 that the building was temporarily shared with a group of Johnsonian Baptists.' {3}{4}{5}
