Full Description

ROMANO BRITISH POTTERY FOUND ON SURFACE INCLUDING 3 GREYWARE RIMS, 2 BASES AND BODY SHERDS AS WELL AS 2 RIMS AND A BASE OF GRITTED WARE. {1} GREY WARE AND COLOUR-COATED WARE WERE FOUND IN LARGE QUANTITIES AT TF 3569 9767 AFTER PLOUGHING. THE FRAGMENTS WERE LARGE, SUGGESTING THAT THEY HAVE ONLY RECENTLY BEEN DISTURBED. {3} Magnetic susceptibility and magnetometer surveys were carried out over this field. A palaeo-channel was identified, to one side of which is evidence for a series of four distinct clusters of activity arranged , in part, along what is possibly a north-south trackway. The level of readings on this field suggest settlement rather than industrial activity, although this may be due to amount of overburden on the site. It is suggested that these anomalies are Romano-British. {4}
