Full Description

A probable kiln site and waster dump, identified by trial trenching in 1956 by E H Rudkin. Two Tudor lobed cups were also found at the site referred to as 'Oatfield' (O.S. field 135), the site of which has been flattened. {1}{2}{3} A kiln was bulldozed in 1959 to the west of some waste heaps. Pottery included jugs without lips and lobed cups. {4} A watching brief was undertaken in July 2006, during the groundworks for an extension at 56 Main Road, Toynton All Saints. A possible ditch was revealed which contained mid 13th to mid 14th century pottery. Unstratified sherds of mostly mid to late 13th to 15th century pottery were also found elsewhere on the site. {5}{6}
