Full Description

A medieval settlement site to the north of East Kirkby. As well as medieval pottery, there was also scatters of stone rubble and burnt stone, a whetstone and 4 animal bone fragments. A sherd of middle Saxon pottery was also found (see PRN 42696). {1} A large quantity of medieval pottery was found in this location in October 2011, during systematic field walking conducted to inform the construction of a new water pipeline. The assemblage comprised sherds from a wide variety of forms and fabrics, including fragments of Toynton ware and possibly late medieval Toynton ware. {2}{3}
