Full Description

SITE OF THE DMV OF DUNSTHORPE WHICH WAS MENTIONED IN 1316. CHURCH WAS IN RUINS BY 1421 AND 1437 SAW THE PARISHES OF DUNSTHORPE AND HAMERINGAM COMBINED DUE TO LACK OF PARISHONERS TO SUPPORT THE CHURCH. BY 1601 ONLY A SMALL CLOSE CALLED 'CHAPPELL YARDE' REMAINED. THE CLOSE CANNOT BE TRACED BUT MAY LIE IN THE FIELD DUE EAST OF THE PRESENT GRANGE. MANY HUMAN BONES HAVE BEEN FOUND THERE IN THE PAST. THE SITE IS MARKED BY THE 17TH CENTURY GRANGE AND EVIDENCE FOR DESERTION CAN ONLY BE SEEN IN TRACES OF OLD FIELD ROADS AND DRAINAGE IN PASTURE FIELD E OF THE GRANGE. {1}{2}{3}{4}{5}
